In a display of ingenuity and dedication, employees at Boulby have leveraged Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools and methodologies to continue to deliver significant improvements across various departments. Through a blend of Green Belt and Yellow Belt initiatives, team members have successfully optimised processes, enhanced operational efficiency, and minimised delays.
Introducing two of our Green Belts, Tom Goodchild has revolutionised the handling of panel electrics by implementing “plug and play” technology. This innovation has streamlined the movement of panels, effectively reducing delays, and enhancing the overall efficiency of panel operations.
Similarly, Ian Brown has significantly improved the predictability of engineering maintenance periods. His efforts have dramatically reduced maintenance overruns, ensuring that maintenance schedules are adhered to with greater certainty.
On the Yellow Belt front, Kimberley Skiba has applied 5S techniques to refine the riffling and weighing processes in the Preparation Laboratory. Her improvements have led to a more efficient, effective and consistent method of operation.
In the X-Ray Diffraction room, Mohammed Rahman utilised a combination of 5S and standard techniques to optimise the performance of a newly acquired pressing machine, removing variability in the process and ensuring it operates at its peak.
Additionally, David Adams employed Lean techniques to enhance internal communication practices, using his innovative flair to create a more cohesive and informed workforce.
These achievements underscore the power of Lean Six Sigma methodologies in driving continuous improvement and operational excellence within our organisation. Through the dedication and innovative thinking of our team members, we continue to set new benchmarks for efficiency and effectiveness.
